E-module for mentors: a free online course for better apprenticeships and the future of crafts in the Republic of Croatia

The Croatian Chamber of Trades and Crafts has developed an e-module on basic knowledge of teaching students in apprenticeships as part of the Erasmus+ Joint Mentoring project. This online course is free for all participants, and will help you prepare for the exam on basic knowledge of teaching students in apprenticeships, taking the master’s exam, or if you want to refresh your knowledge of teaching students.

How to enroll?

Enrollment in the e-module is carried out by registering on the Loomen platform. The procedure is described here.

Employers who are mentors or have mentors employed in their craft, educate their future employees by accepting students for apprenticeships. Professional and pedagogical work with young people makes the mentor a respected person in society.

If the mentor invests his professional knowledge and organizational skills in the young person, after just one year the apprentice can perform a significant part of the work in the profession for which he is being trained and thus contribute to a more successful business.

In his work, the mentor has a threefold responsibility: towards the student, towards his personal business, and towards the economy and society.

Responsibility towards the student refers to:

  • providing the best possible education
  • care for the upbringing of the student
  • care and attention to ensuring that the work the student performs does not endanger his physical or mental development
  • ensuring the student’s appropriate access to the world of his profession and work.

Responsibility towards personal business refers to:

  • creating qualified young people
  • maintaining working capacity in his workshop
  • care for the cost-effectiveness of education
  • fundamental and complete education of students that will contribute to the development of the craft business.

Responsibility towards the economy and society refers to:

  • education and upbringing of a citizen capable of working
  • maintaining the permanent working capacity of the entire economy
  • maintaining and increasing the standard of living of people through higher professional qualifications
  • educational contribution to the development of a democratic way of thinking and market management.
